Karibu Kwetu Solar Announces Plans for Africa’s First Solar-Powered AI Cluster: Project Baobab
Windhoek, Namibia – 10/07/25
Karibu Kwetu Solar Trading LTD (KKST) is proud to unveil Project Baobab — a bold new initiative to build Africa’s first solar-powered artificial intelligence (AI) cluster, purpose-built to transform healthcare, agriculture, and public infrastructure through sustainable, sovereign digital capacity.
Set to be powered by a 550kW solar array and CMBlu flow batteries, the AI cluster will house 8x AMD MI300X GPUs — delivering 1.5TB of VRAM to support high-performance, high-impact AI applications across national sectors.
Critically, Project Baobab will ensure that all data generated, processed, and stored remains in-country, enhancing Namibia’s digital sovereignty and providing a secure platform for sensitive national datasets — from medical diagnostics to climate forecasting and grid analytics.
Targeted benefits include:
-
Healthcare: Faster TB diagnostics, saving 200+ lives annually
-
Agriculture: AI-driven drought alerts to protect 30% of crops
-
Energy: Smarter grid management and 15% renewable efficiency gains
-
Mining: Predictive maintenance with $5M+/year in cost savings
Aligned with the Harambee Prosperity Plan III, NDP6, and the EU–Africa Green Gateway, Project Baobab positions Namibia to lead Southern Africa in clean-powered, AI-enabled innovation — with data privacy, energy independence, and economic resilience at its core.
“This is about more than AI — it’s about national security and ownership in the digital age,” said Christian Spangenberg, CTO of KKST. “By keeping data local and infrastructure community-owned, Namibia protects its future while unlocking growth.”
MoUs are currently under development with NUST, Windhoek Central Hospital, and government ministries, with project partners working to finalize ethics clearances and pilot site approvals.
KKST projects over 250 job opportunities and a $20 million GDP uplift by 2027 if co-investment and government endorsement are secured in the next six months.
