Project Baobab featured in Market Watch
Windhoek/Prague November 2025
Karibu Kwetu Solar Trading (KKST), a Namibian renewable energy enterprise, is advancing collaborative discussions with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) to explore Micro-Concentrated Photovoltaic (Micro-CPV) technology in Namibia. Micro-CPV offers significantly higher efficiency than conventional solar cells, and the partners are considering a local demonstration as part of Project Baobab, an initiative aiming to establish Africa’s first solar-powered artificial intelligence research cluster. The planned collaboration seeks to integrate this advanced solar technology with Namibia’s research and innovation ecosystem, strengthen technical capacity, and generate real-time data on energy costs, performance, and carbon footprint for AI computing. The initiative also aims to foster inclusive economic growth, youth skills development, and sustainable innovation, leveraging Namibia’s strong solar resources and people-to-people collaboration between Namibian and German institutions.
